‘Postcards from The Future’ exhibition and events
Museum of London, Oct 2010 - Mar 2011
National Theatre, April 2011 - May 2011
The exhibition of ‘Postcards From The Future’ (then known as London Futures) opened at the Museum of London to universal acclaim on the 1st October 2010. The focus of the show was the impact of climate change on 14 landmark views of London. Each view was transformed into scenes illustrating how the impact of climate change may shape the city.
The images courted enormous attention worldwide, they were featured in the Sunday Times Magazine, The Sun, The Telegraph Online, CNN Online, National Geographic, and leading papers in Switzerland, Norway & Sweden.
The images were presented as very large backlit transparencies, some are 1.6m wide. They were both beautiful and arresting, with an astonishing level of clarity and definition.
Some of the scenes are tongue in cheek, others more alarming, and some a very practical response to change.
Their purpose is not to predict the future but to elicit a response and debate on this crucial issue facing all of us, but each picture is a work of art in its own right.
The London exhibition had a program of events called ‘’London Futures’’ running alongside. The show and events have been supported by prominent environmental figures including James Lovelock and Sir Crispin Tickell, and have featured on the BBC.
Straight from its successful run at the Museum of London the exhibition transferred to the National Theatre on London’s Southbank.
